Along with my BGSU GD colleague and Associate Professor Lori Young (see upper left), we attended UnderConsideration's Brand New Conference in Chicago at the Harris Theater at Millennium Park. Wow! Do they know how to put on a conference! I was especially appreciative of Armin and Bryony giving us a behind the scenes look at their process for creating the graphics for the conference and and to know my conference badge was personally touched by the two of them through the silkscreening process. As Lori and I are both teaching the System-Based Graphic Design course this Fall, we were grateful for the swag to share with our students as well as our conference notes and experiences. While we heard from many great speakers, one of my favorites was Jennifer Kinon from Hillary for America who shared her challenges in designing for such an icon. She was humble and apologetic for not being able to help bring Hillary to the Oval office, but I am impressed by her courage, talent and grace in tackling this incredible design challenge. She has nothing to apologize for as the candidate had many cards stacked against her, including the woman card. :( Lastly, as I am in training for the Detroit Free Press Marathon in October, I was thankful to squeeze in a sunrise run along Lake Shore Drive. Thank you Chicago and UnderConsideration!
